Halloween isn’t for me

Yesterday afternoon while administering the speaking activities of students, they were reciting about holidays around the globe. They asked me if Philippines celebrates Halloween. I said “No”.

But sad to say, Philippines started to aknowledge Halloween as part of the holiday. Though trick-or-treating isn’t well-adapted , wearing gory, bloody or seductive,  sexy halloween costumes and attending costume parties, bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, committing pranks, telling ghost stories or other frightening tales, and watching horror films were done popularly on Halloween Day.

My family and my relatives don’t participate the October 31st holiday . Halloween has strong roots in paganism and is closely connected with worship of the Enemy of this world, Satan. It is a holiday that generally glorifies the dark things of this world, rather than the light of Jesus Christ, The Truth.

The gruesome and grotesque and the occult are increasingly glorified in American society and the sad plight is, Philippines who claimed to be the only Christian country in Asia was blinded and actively celebrate and  participates in it. Schools are even holding programs for Halloween and require students to wear Halloween costumes. Parents were even happy seeing their children dressed as witches, devils, and other sick creatures and call that cute!

My family does not celebrate it or participate in it. We do not believe that we are “missing out,”. We could host a Bible Character Dress Up Contest if we want to wear costume.  We have found that Halloween provides an excellent time to remind ourselves that, as Christians, we are different, and not of this world . Our fight isn’t against occultists, non-Christians, Christians who feel differently than we about Halloween, or institutions that promote Halloween, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places(Ephesians 6:12, NKJV).
