In my previous post (here) I mentioned about my wish to receive jewelry for my wedding anniversary. I was questioned by a Christian friend before in high school if we Christians are allowed to wear make-up and jewelries. By the way she belongs to a denomination where women are not allowed to cut their hair, wear pants, no make-up (even lipgloss) and it’s a big no-no to wear jewelries. They could wear watches though because it was considered a necessity to track time but not a wedding ring.
For me as a Christian woman with relationship with Jesus, my personal Savior it’s okay to wear make-up and jewelries as long as it will not let my outward appearance become more important than my inner beauty. Our beauty should not come from outward adornment such as the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self , the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit , which is of great worth in God’s sight.
There is nothing wrong with wearing jewelry and make-up as long as it is done in a modest manner. It became wrong if the focus is on outward appearance and neglects the inner spiritual life. It is wrong when most of the time and finances were spent on appearance alone. Remember that charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-GOD.
