The domain name of this blog “fashionexplorer.net ” is a gift from a friend in blogosphere. I was a newbie blogger at that time and she offered to buy me a domain name. It’s really on timing because I just won free webhosting for a year. I was ignorant on how I could use webhosting. I was just ecstatic on the name of winning something. It never occured to me that I need a domain name before I could use my prize. Good thing I have an angel named Rosa at that time and she offered to buy me a domain name so that I could start blogging in wordpress platform and use my webhosting prize. Everything is FREE so I didn’t hesitate to add another blog alongside with my other two blogs ( both under the blogspot platform). I never thought that finding a domain name could be somethings a pain in a neck! We tried different domain names and when my friend do the domain name check, the good names I chose were all taken or else for sale! It’s kinda frustrating, really. When I finally settle on “fashionexplorer.com”, the domain name availability search confirmed that it’s taken as well but fashionexplorer.net is available. I don’t have a choice but to venture on .net at that time. So far, I’m doing great with this blog and it’s the first blog that lets me earn a hundred bucks for shopping spree!
As an advice for my friends who are venturing the world of blogging recently, I told them not to rush on choosing their domain name. If much as possible, their domain name should be their website name like this site except that it’s .net instead of .com because it’s already taken:( Naming a site after its domain name is important, for the simple reason that when people think of your website, they’ll think of it by name. If your name is also your URL, they’ll automatically know where to go (though this is not the case with my first two blogs). Our domain name is the center of our Internet identity. Keep it short and remarkable (though I had 1 domain name that is too long to be remembered-genefaithisawayfromhome.com). If possible, I recommend a .com suffix. It is the first extension that most people try when searching for a website. Also, since it is one of the oldest extensions, .com shows that your site has been around for a while and that you have a well-established presence on the web.
When you have settled on several available name choices, see what your friends have to say. A name that may make perfect sense to you may be too hard for other people to remember. Make it easy to say, easy to spell and understandable.
And remember, if you think that if you have found the right domain name, but you’re not quite sure if it’s the one… register it anyway before someone else does! You’ll be happy if you’ll get the domain names that you want just as I experienced.
