Off to Fashion Merchandising School she’ll go

I love my career as a teacher. It’s a noble career where God used my life to have a lifetime impact to my students. It’s a job where I will always be remembered by my students. This is my calling, my challenge and my mission!

On the other hand, I want to have a sideline business. Having a sideline business allows us to put in additional earnings to our bank account. I had that desire to put up a boutique. I still need to raise a capital for that . I also need a Wizard of Oz for that future boutique- someone behind the curtain that will make everything appear as impressive as possible, someone deciding to stock ruby slippers because they’re the next big thing, someone who will know what customers want, even before they know it, and has the skills to persuade them. With these considerations, I was thinking of sending my younger sister (she’ll graduate from high school this coming April) to a fashion merchandising school and earn a fashion merchandising degree. Yes, she’s a budding fashionista and wants to take up a business-related course. A fashion merchandising degree will be perfect for her because it will help her combine her love of fashion with business savvy. We’re still looking for the right school to get the training she’ll need to succeed in this field.

Fashion merchandising jobs require a blend of fashion sense and business expertise. Style alone won’t lead to a successful career in this field. Staying ahead of the fashion curve is a feat involving both art and science. Strategy and marketing know-how are an integral part of fashion merchandising.

In a fashion merchandising job, your task is to make fashion relatable to your customers. In order to do this, you may perform a variety of tasks, including the following:

Going fashion shows
Buying fashions
Negotiating with suppliers and manufacturers
Managing retail outlets
Creating store displays
Advertising and marketing

Isn’t this job so cool? I wish my sister will make up her mind and see the vast opportunities in this fashion merchandising field. But we need to find the perfect fashion merchandising school first in Philippines! Any suggestions?
