Colors and My Wardrobe

I noticed that I have an inclination to be a mood dresser. Mood dressers are people who are in-tune with their emotions and dress accordingly. Sometimes, I feel pink on one day, and the next day, I feel blue. As I took inventory of my closet yesterday, I can’t believe how I became fashion rut these days! I need to introduce some different colors into my wardrobe that will better reflect my day-to-day moods.

According to my closet inventory, I owned about 80% clothing in grays and blacks! This is because for me black and gray are fashion basics. There are times, I chose to wear black because I prefer to blend in and not make any statement. If I want a teeny-weeny attention, it will be noticed on the popping color of my footwear.

Next to gray and black, I have blue. Have you noticed that wearing hues of blue is calming? Blues in general remind me of a favorite pair of well-worn denim jeans – now that’s simply relaxing.

In school, we wear pink T-shirts on Tuesday and Friday. Imagine about 100+ teachers and employees in pink! The atmosphere is warm and friendly! When people are wearing pink, whether they are male or female, they appear approachable and capable of loving others. Wearing pink definitely makes me feel pretty!

I only own one piece of blouse in orange color. I want to add two or three more dresses with this color. Every time I wear my only orange blouse, it makes me feel quite playful. Adorning yourself with an orange accent piece can add a hint of playfulness. Beware, if you need to complete a mundane project avoid wearing orange as it might interfere with the stick-to-it-ness required to stay on task.

On times, that I wanted to feel special and unique, then I go for purple. The color purple, especially shades of violet, will definitely make a statement. If you would like to send a message out into the world that you’re one of a kind and that you could care less about conformity, then wear purple.

On red, I got red shoes, purses, accessories! Red is a very powerful color. I wear red whenever I feel a need to portray confidence or would like to boost my self esteem.

I need to add whites into my wardrobe. I’ve given away my last piece of white because it’s been with me for a decade (not to mention it’s dingy already) and I want to replace it with brighter one. What I love about putting on a white blouse is the feeling of opportunity to start the day with a clean slate. Wearing a white garment, as long as it hasn’t taken on any discoloration from too much laundering, can offer a fresh and bright outlook. No wonder this is usually the chosen color medical uniform. Wearing white will help reduce any nagging feelings of disappointment or drudge among the patients.

To sum up, the way we dress and the color of our wardrobe affect our moods. This maybe one of the reasons that scrubs – medical uniform consisting of a short-sleeve shirt and pants have evolved from stark white nursing dress to colorful, expressional scrubs like the dickies scrubs from Marcus uniforms. Healthcare workers have found that wearing brighter, more colorful attire will create a more relaxed atmosphere. I do agree!
