According to the Better Hearing Institute (BHI) study, three out of four parents surveyed indicated their child experienced “minor” to “serious” problems due to their hearing loss. The most serious problems were:

Lipstick

• Problem: The new sheer formulas tend to bleed and reveal fine lines around the lips.
• Solution: First apply an oil-free moisturizer to the lips, then outline with a lip pencil and fill in with a matte lipstick.

Tip: Gently apply loose translucent powder over the lippy with a tissue to blot lips and give the lipstick longer staying power.

Eyeliner

• Problem: Eyeliner pencils smear too much in the heat.
• Solution: Use an eyeliner liquid pen that won’t smudge.

Tip: Keep the pencils in the fridge during summer.

Mascara

• Problem: Runny or flaky mascara caused by humidity.
• Solution:Use a waterproof mascara and concentrate most of it at the lash roots.

Tip: Invest in an eyelash curler and hold it in place for at least 10 seconds on each eye, as curled lashes are less likely to rub against the skin. If you wake up with puffy eyes, soak the curler in chilled water before using it.

Powder

• Problem: a shiny face.
• Solution: For a natural application, apply loose translucent powder with a large brush, paying special attention to the T-zone, where the skin is mostly oily. Powder is essential so make-up won’t slide or look too shiny.

Tip: Instead of reapplying powder during the day, use oil-blotting papers as they contain traces of powder so there is no risk of foundation ending up looking caky.

Eyeshadow

• Problem: Eyeshadows slides off or gathers in the crease of the eyelid.
• Solution: Use powdered rather than cream eyeshadows.

Tip: Prime the eyelids with beige eyeshadow first to soak up oil and give the eyeshadow a base to adhere to.

Eyebrows

• Problem: Eyebrow colors smudge.
• Solution: Use a long-wearing eyebrow pencil. Fill-in and shape with feathery strokes.

Tip: After you’ve filled in brows, go over them with a powdered eyeshadow in the same color to seal the pencil. Soften the edges with an eyebrow brush or a clean mascara wand.

Blush

• Problem: Streaking from heat and humidity .
• Solution: Skip cream and gel rouge and opt for powdered bronzer or blush for a natural glow.

Tip: Using a large brush, apply bronzer to the parts of the face the sun hits. Then use a smaller brush to apply a pink blush to the apples of the creeks.

Foundation

• Problem: Greasy foundation from excess oil on the face.
• Solution: Use an oil-free or water-based dual-finish fformula or powdered compact foundations that can be used either wet or dry.

Tip: Use a damp synthetic sponge to apply foundation, as using your fingers warms the skin and stimulates oil glands. if your foundation doesn’t contain a sunscreen, apply one first and wait five minutes for the skin to absorb it so the foundation spreads evenly.

• Use a fan. To give your naturally straight hair extra shine, stand in front of a fan to brush it as it dries.
